In addition to the regular driving days, Museumspoorlijn STAR also organizes various events for young and old every year. On this page you will find an overview of the events. Different rates apply to some events, this information can be found on the relevant pages. The online pre-sale for the events starts approximately 1 to 2 months before the event.

Junior Railway Day
On the last Sunday of the Spring Break (North region), when the crocuses are in bloom and winter seems far away, we organize the Junior Spoordag. A day full of activities for the children, and we drive a historic diesel locomotive!
General cargo day
Ascension Day = National Steam Train Day! At STAR, this day is all about freight transport. Nowadays, you can order with one click of a button and often have your package delivered within 24 hours, parcel deliverers are working overtime. But in the past, there was no internet, and transport looked very different. How did it work in the past? A lot by rail, and on General Cargo Day we show this and you can help yourself!
Teddy Bear Day
On Whit Monday and the last Sunday of the autumn break, Museumspoorlijn STAR is all about our young visitors. All children can come along for free if they bring their own cuddly toy! Of course, our life-size teddy bears and the bear doctor will be there too, and there will be plenty to do at the station and on the train.
NK Train pulling
The summer season starts at STAR with the NK-treintrekken. Strong men and women take it upon themselves to pull a 21-ton locomotive. Who will walk away with the win? A beautiful spectacle to behold, and of course you can also just go along on the train yourself!
Stadskanaal under Steam
The third weekend of September is traditionally dedicated to the largest steam spectacle in the Northern Netherlands. Enjoy steam trains, historic boats, steam engines and demonstrations at and around Stadskanaal station! During this weekend, several steam locomotives will be running according to an extensive timetable!
October children’s month
The steam train Museum railway STAR runs during the autumn holidays on Sundays and Wednesdays between Stadskanaal and Veendam. And because it is Children’s Month in October, children up to and including 12 years old can travel for free!
Saint Nicholas express
It has been a tradition for many years that the Good Saint Nicholas visits Museumspoorlijn STAR as soon as he is back in the country. And this year he will once again find a gap in his busy schedule to go on the train! Will you come along to help Saint Nicholas and his helpers? It promises to be a fun, cozy and also exciting trip.
