On the last Sunday of the Spring Break (North region), when the crocuses are in bloom and winter seems far away, we organize Junior Spoordag.

On this Sunday, extra activities are organized for the young visitors. Take part in the railway quiz, go on a bear hunt or have your face painted! On the platform in Stadskanaal you can participate in traditional Dutch games such as walking on stilts. You can also see how fast you are on the pump lorry! And you can even ride a bit on a real shunting locomotive on this day. The museum is also open. Of course, there are two trains between Stadskanaal and Veendam.

During the spring break, the trains of Museumspoorlijn STAR run on Wednesdays and Sundays between Stadskanaal and Veendam. We drive with a historic diesel locomotive!

Ticket sales

The next Junior Spoordag will be in February 2026, ticket sales start approximately one month before this event. Buy your ticket via our ticket shop, which you can then easily exchange for an authentic train ticket at the counter upon arrival at the station! Tickets can also be purchased at the Stadskanaal and Veendam stations. The conductor will check and clip the ticket on the train.
