The summer season starts at Museumspoorlijn STAR. Until the end of August, the steam train runs every Sunday between Stadskanaal and Veendam. On the first ‘driving day’ of the summer period, on July 6, 2025, the National Train Pulling Championship will take place.

NK Treintrekken

On Sunday, July 6, it will be time again. During the NK Treintrekken, strong men and women take on the task of pulling a 21-ton locomotive. Men are given an extra 10 tons to deal with. Who-o-who will get the locomotive moving… and who is the fastest? This event is organized in collaboration with O-S-O, Organization Strong Men Oldambt. The competition starts at 12:30.

Summer season

Until the end of August, the steam train will now run two return trips between Stadskanaal and Veendam every Sunday. From 16 July to 20 August you can also take the train on Wednesdays. The train leaves Stadskanaal at 10:50 and 14:05. From Veendam you can take a return trip by train at 12:05. On most days, a trip on the steam train can also be combined with a visit to the Veenkoloniaal Museum in Veendam. Combination tickets are available for this on the STAR website.
