During Stadskanaal under Steam, on September 20 and 21, 2025, several guest locomotives will also be present. An overview of these locomotives is provided below.
The weekend will focus on Traces of Reconstruction. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Europe after World War II. The war and the subsequent reconstruction had a significant impact on our region, and without railways in the Netherlands, the reconstruction would have been very different. This year’s guest rolling stock is directly related to this.

Locomotive NS 7853 from our colleagues at Museum Buurtspoorweg (MBS) from Haaksbergen will run in the timetable during Stadskanaal onder Stoom. This locomotive from 1910, built by the Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik in Winterthur, Switzerland, has been restored by the MBS and has been in service there for many years. Steam locomotive NS 7853 is of the same type that the NS acquired second-hand from the Swiss Federal Railways after the war for reconstruction.
During Stadskanaal under Steam, this sister of our own 2278 will pull both passenger and freight trains. The 2200s were built in the 1950s as part of the Marshall Plan, based on an American design.
Besides these locomotives, the Museumspoorlijn STAR’s own engines are also on the road this weekend. View the full overview on this page.
