The third weekend of September is traditionally dedicated to the largest steam spectacle in the Northern Netherlands:Stadskanaal under Steam.
Enjoy steam trains, historic boats and various other steam engines at and around Stadskanaal station! On both days (20 and 21 September 2025) there will be an extended timetable between Stadskanaal and Veendam and Stadskanaal and Nieuw-Buinen. In the carriage shed there is a model railway fair on both days with various traders and a large model railway.
Every year we try to have a guest locomotive come to Stadskanaal. In 2024 that was the NS6513 of Stoomtram Hoorn Medemblik. It remains a secret for a while which locomotive will come this year.
