Traditionally, the third weekend of September is dedicated to the largest steam event in the Northern Netherlands: Stadskanaal onder Stoom.

Enjoy steam trains, historic boats and a wide variety of other steam-powered machinery at and around Stadskanaal station! On both days (19 and 20 September), trains operate according to an extensive timetable between Stadskanaal and Veendam, and between Stadskanaal and Nieuw Buinen. In the historic carriage shed, a model railway exhibition will be held on both days, featuring numerous traders and a model railway layout.
